Do you laugh every day?

I read somewhere once that the average 4 year old laughs about 300 times a day and the average 40 year old laughs only 4.  We have some pretty sad adults out there!

In case you’re wondering, I’m NOT going to be one of those 40 year olds who laughs only 4 times a day.  First of all, I have two hilarious boys, who, even when I want to be serious and discipline them, they do something cute or say something funny and I have to try really, really, really hard not to laugh.  Then, I’m married to someone who I honestly think should have been a comedian!  He’s always doing something to make me laugh…though coming to think of it most times he’s making fun of me!  I’ve also been extremely blessed to have worked at places where I truly enjoy the company of my colleagues and as a result, laughter is always just one joke away.

Laughing is one of those things that I rank high on my scale of ‘need-to-haves’.  There’s so much in the world to be down about, that choosing to laugh, in my opinion, is a way to soar above it all.  I don’t want to make light of, or trivialize, the more serious issues in the world, but rather to take the bad with the good so to speak. This is why (and I can hear my mom right now saying that I need to be more abreast of world issues), I refuse to watch any type of news.  I get my news from my Twitter feed and if, only if, I’m interested in a headline will I make the effort to click for more details.  This is my way of placing a fence around what I deem as important in my life.  Nothing will steal my laughter!

I’m sure you can do lots of research about the health benefits of laughter, but for me all that matters is that it makes me and those around me feel good!   And that my friends, means the world to me!

He's so cute trying to hold in his laughter...
He’s so cute trying to hold in his laughter…

So turn off the news, find a comedy on the TV, call up a friend, hang out with a kid, tell a knock knock joke…do something…anything to laugh!  Besides we all look prettier, a little more attractive, heck I hear we can even extend our lives, when we laugh ;).

If you don’t have access to a kid…read this post, this one, maybe even this one oh…oh…you gotta read THIS ONE, gosh they just don’t end…last one!
